**Pick Mobster if** you build iOS apps on a Mac and want them checked on the iPhone on your desk, by the coding agent that wrote the screen.

**Pick BrowserStack if** you need many real devices and iOS versions, Android or the web, hosted CI, or manual testing on a remote phone.

We make Mobster. Every BrowserStack fact here comes from BrowserStack’s own pages and docs, listed under Sources, read on 17 October 2026.

## Three reasons to pick Mobster

### 1. The phone is yours, and so is its state

BrowserStack gives you a hosted device for a session. Mobster drives the iPhone you already own, plugged into your Mac, with the app and the accounts that are on it. `mobster verify --device` checks an app you already installed, without clearing its data. Mobster for Mac builds, signs and renews the runner for each phone.

### 2. Your coding agent writes and runs the check

A Mobster check is plain-English steps plus what must be true. Your agent can write it, run it over MCP and read the verdict, which comes from assertions on the accessibility tree, never from a model. On 17 October 2026 a coding agent wrote a passing Mobster check in a median 55.5 s (n = 3), against 93.6 s for a Maestro flow with the same agent, spec and app.

BrowserStack runs tests that you write in Appium, XCUITest, Espresso or Maestro. Its dashboard adds AI agents that heal locators and analyse failures. [Coding agents](https://docs.mobster.dev/mcp-server) lists every Mobster tool.

### 3. A passed check replays with no model and no rental

Once a check passes, Mobster replays its recorded steps with no model call. On an iPhone 15 Pro over USB, a two-step check replayed in a median 10.3 s with 0 model calls and $0 (10 of 10 replays, 17 October 2026). A replay costs a few seconds of your Mac, not a metered session.

## Where BrowserStack is the better pick

- **Breadth.** App Automate lists 30,000+ real devices. Mobster tests the iPhones you own and simulators.
- **Zero device setup.** You upload a build. Mobster’s setup took 5 min 26 s on a fresh iPhone 16.
- **Android and the web.** Mobster drives iOS only.
- **Hosted CI.** BrowserStack runs from any CI with no machine of yours. Mobster’s CI path is a Mac that you run.
- **Evidence on a real iPhone.** BrowserStack records video on every session and offers device and network logs. Mobster’s video, log and crash capture is proven on simulators; on a real iPhone it keeps the per-step screens and the verdict frame.
- **Manual testing.** App Live lets a person tap through a build on up to four devices.

## Using both

Run Mobster while your agent builds a screen, on your phone and simulators, where each check is quick and free to repeat. Run your Appium or XCUITest suite on BrowserStack before a release, across the devices you support. Mobster never touches the files of either.

## Questions

- ### Is Mobster a BrowserStack alternative?
For iOS apps you build on a Mac, yes. Mobster checks your app on the iPhone beside you and on iOS simulators, written by your coding agent, for $12 a month, $99 a year, or $149 once. BrowserStack is the better fit when you need thousands of device and OS combinations, Android or the web.
- ### Does BrowserStack record video and logs?
Yes. Its XCUITest docs say video is on by default, while device logs and network logs are off until you ask for them. Mobster keeps video, logs, crash reports and per-step screens on simulators. On a real iPhone it keeps the per-step screens and the verdict frame.
- ### Can I use Mobster and BrowserStack together?
Yes. Use Mobster while your agent builds the screen, on your own iPhone and simulators, and keep BrowserStack for the long tail of devices and iOS versions before a release. Mobster keeps its checks in .mobster/checks and doesn't touch your Appium or XCUITest suites.
- ### How much does BrowserStack cost?
On 17 October 2026 its pricing page lists App Automate at $199 a month for one parallel test on Device Cloud and $249 on Device Cloud Pro, billed annually. Each extra parallel test costs more, and more than 5 goes through sales.
