## Three reasons to pick Mobster

### 1. The phone is yours, and so is its state

Sauce Labs gives you a hosted device. Mobster drives the iPhone you already own, plugged into your Mac, with the app and accounts that are on it. `mobster verify --device` checks an app you already installed, without clearing its data.

### 2. Your agent’s MCP server ends in a verdict

Both companies have an MCP server. Sauce MCP gives an agent real-device sessions: it starts and ends them, installs apps, captures screenshots, reads the UI and captures network traffic. Its docs say mobile device capabilities are limited to Private Devices through the Access API, a paid add-on to Real Device Cloud.

Mobster’s MCP server is built around a check the agent can’t move. `verify_start` takes what must be true before the agent touches the app, the agent drives with `screen`, `tap`, `type_text` and `swipe`, and `verify_finish` returns passed, failed, needs_review or couldnt_run from assertions on the accessibility tree, never from a model. [Coding agents](https://docs.mobster.dev/mcp-server) lists every tool.

### 3. A passed check replays for free

Once a check passes, Mobster replays its recorded steps with no model call. On an iPhone 15 Pro over USB, a two-step check replayed in a median 10.3 s with 0 model calls and $0 (10 of 10, 17 October 2026). On 17 October 2026 a coding agent also wrote a passing Mobster check in a median 55.5 s (n = 3).

## Where Sauce Labs is the better pick

- **Devices.** Its mobile page lists 9,000+ real devices. Mobster tests the iPhones you own and simulators.
- **Android and the web.** Mobster drives iOS only.
- **Nothing to set up on a device.** You upload an app. Mobster’s setup took 5 min 26 s on a never-used iPhone 16.
- **Hosted CI.** Sauce Labs runs from any CI with no Mac of yours.
- **Frameworks you already have.** Appium, Espresso and XCUITest run on Sauce Labs as they are.

## Using both

Run Mobster while your agent builds a screen, on your phone and simulators. Run your Appium or XCUITest suite on Sauce Labs before a release, across the devices you support. Mobster never touches either suite’s files.

## Questions

- ### Is Mobster a Sauce Labs alternative?
For iOS apps you build on a Mac, yes. Mobster checks your app on the iPhone beside you and on simulators with checks your coding agent writes. Sauce Labs is the better fit when you need a large pool of hosted devices, Android or the web.
- ### Does Sauce Labs have an MCP server?
Yes. Sauce MCP is a hosted server that lets an AI client discover real devices, start and end sessions, install apps, capture screenshots, read the UI and capture network traffic. Its docs say mobile device capabilities are limited to Private Devices through the Access API, a paid add-on, and that AI test authoring is a paid add-on for Enterprise accounts.
- ### How much does Sauce Labs cost?
On 17 October 2026 its Real Device Cloud plan starts at $199 a month billed annually or $249 month to month for one concurrent session. Plans offer 1 to 5 concurrent sessions, priced by the number you choose. Its AI test authoring agent is listed with Enterprise offerings.
- ### Can I use Mobster and Sauce Labs together?
Yes. Use Mobster while your agent builds the screen, on your iPhone and simulators, and keep Sauce Labs for hosted devices before a release. Mobster keeps its checks in .mobster/checks and doesn't touch your Appium or XCUITest suites.
